Reaper? , 20015
By Shana [Tue 4 Feb 2020 @ 5:16 PM (PBW Time)]

So did the thread reaper get turned back on suddenly? I didn't think it was going to be a thing any more.

I'm not sure when it happened as I've been crazy busy at work since mid December and things were finally starting to settle down.

I had things that I thought were safely archived that are now just gone. Things that I'd held onto for reference, or review and one some that were done by a loved one that's passed away irl.

Archiving threads hadn't worked in a very long time and I thought the reaper had lost his teeth or else I would have been more vigilant about keeping these things active.

Just wondering if there's any way to recover lost threads.

Reaper and servers, 20016

You are correct that the plan was to leave the reaper functions broken. We're investigating that at this time. It seems like the reaper code is still broken, but the part of it that trims the database began working again after the server migrations that took place on Monday.

I'm also victim of this unexpected occurrence, having gotten lazy about backing up my threads, so I share your concerns. As it stands, it looks like we may be able to load content from before the component of the reaper did. I'm not entirely sure of the process at this time.

Had the same thing happen. It's site wide though, as some of the requests and chats here in the Forums was also vastly effected.

Shana, can you please check your games to see that the content is restored accordingly?

So far, it seems like the backups from last month are not valid. Whether it is a server issue or something else, we were forced to use content from December at this time.

Only one way to know. , 20020

All we can do is try and recover what is available.

If anybody wishes their content recovered, we need to pull the records and make the attempt.

Request, 20021

Checking to see if my games can be recovered. Most of them were kind of stalled out so it probably doesn't matter. I hadn't been able to post for a while and I think most of my players bailed on me "Homecoming" was the only one I was really doing anything with right now and probably wouldn't have even been hit if I hadn't had such a crazy start to the year.

Figure I'm going to have to start things over but I figured it didn't hurt to ask.

Reapists!, 20022

Hi, I'm a newly returning PBWebber who doesn't remember how everything goes... Is it safe to say my posts/threads will not be wiped away forever? Or should I store them somewhere else?

The Reaper sign came on two of my threads and I'm fearful I'm going to get reaped!

My understanding is that the reaper has been disabled, not just left dysfunctional. We can try to recover content. I'll add your usernames to the list of players looking for their content.

To be cautious just in case some anomaly happens, always make a backup.

Time frame?, 20027
By hotlady836 [Sun 23 Feb 2020 @ 8:16 PM (PBW Time)]

Just wanted to know what kind of time frame we should be looking at to find out if our games can be recovered or not? I asked about 2 weeks ago so I'm guessing mind are gone or is going to take more time to find out. I just kind of want to know one way or the other at this point.

I only recently got settled into a place where I could get better wi-fi, and so I am back to Play By Web, I would love to have my game restored to what ever degree you might be able to restore it.

@hotlady836 - It is a slow process, so I apologize for the wait. Once I have confirmation of what has been recovered, I'll let you know via a note as well as here.

@AnotherFumble - I've added your board to the list of titles we're attempting recovery for.

@Foxwitch & Brytestar - Your boards should have finished getting recovered. Can you please verify and let us know how they look?

Please keep in mind that the recovery is from files that may not be as current as we would have liked to have available.
